It’s been a while, I know. I was a little busy with moving into my new house and whatnot.
So. I talked about being on all those medications so I could have some eggs sucked out of me for IVF. The doctor had warned me that the follicle-stimulating shot was going to make me very aware of my ovaries. And, boy, was she right. I don’t quite know how to explain it. I felt more full in that area is the best I can say. I wasn’t in pain, but I wasn’t comfortable either. At one ultrasound, the doctor pointed out that my ovaries were touching each other, or in her words, “kissing.”
It was an outpatient procedure done at the office to remove my eggs. My husband came with and had to provide a sample while there since they were going to try and fertilize that day, I believe. He did go back to our old house for a little while because people were coming to work on our roof that same day (remember the tree that hit the house?). They gave him a call when my procedure was done and he came back.
There’s really not much to say about the procedure itself since I was unconscious for it. Being put under is kind of fun. I know I’m about to go out when it starts looking like the ceiling is moving.
They were able to get 14 eggs out of me. 13 of them were mature, which they tried to fertilize. 10 of those succeeded in fertilizing, and eight got to the stage they want them at. So, I have eight eggs that can be transferred into me — though not all at once. They may implant me with one or two eggs. They don’t want to risk twins or anything like that.
I go back in tomorrow for a sonogram and a mock transfer. They need to do a mock one so they have all my bits measured and whatnot. I have to drink 32 oz of water by an hour before my appointment time so that I have a full bladder. A full bladder flattens the uterus and prevents the catheter tube from bending. I was told the full bladder will be uncomfortable. No shit. If it’s not full enough I guess I have to drink more and wait a bit, but if it’s too full I’ll be allowed to pee a little bit. I’ve never had to just stop peeing before, so if that happens, it’ll be an adventure.
